Winning Picks: Play the game

Using a playslip makes Mega Millions easier to play. Below is a copy of the California Lottery Mega Millions playslip. To complete it, follow the instructions below.

Step 1: Mark 5 numbers from 1 to 56 in the upper play area.

Step 2: Mark 1 number from 1 to 46 in the lower play area.

Important: Please check your playslip carefully. Mega
Millions tickets cannot be cancelled. All sales are final.

Other Playslip Features!

  • Quick Pick
Mark Quick Pick to randomly select the 5 numbers, the MEGA number, or both the 5 and MEGA numbers. Do not use red ink. You may select up to 5 additional Quick Pick plays on each playslip.

  • Multiple Drawings
Play the same numbers for consecutive draws by marking Advance Play. You may select 2-8, 16 or 20 Advance Plays.

  • Cash Option
Jackpot prize paid in 26 equal annual installments. However, if you win the jackpot, you will have 60 days from the Lottery's payment approval date to choose the cash value of the prize instead of the 26 annual payments. Cash Value: Single cash payment, estimated at 40% to 50% of the estimated jackpot.

Important!

  • Clearly mark all selections in blue or black pen or pencil only. If you make a mistake, mark the VOID box. DO NOT ERASE.
  • Your ticket will show your number selections and draw date(s), and is the only valid proof of your wager and the only valid receipt for claiming a prize.
  • Sign the back of your ticket immediately to indicate ownership.

Checking your Numbers!
Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday at 8:00 p.m.. Five balls will be drawn from 1 to 56 and one ball will be drawn from 1 to 46. You win if the numbers on one row of your ticket match the numbers of the balls drawn on that date. There are nine ways to win a prize, from $2 to the jackpot. If no one wins the jackpot, the money is added to the jackpot for the next drawing. Overall chances of winning a prize are 1 in 40.

Prize Categories and Odds!
The jackpot prize payout will be the same for all the states. However, in California all prizes are pari-mutuel, meaning prize amounts vary with the number of tickets sold and the number of winning tickets in each prize category.

All other Mega Millions states pay the jackpot prize on a pari-mutuel basis, but the 2nd through 9th prizes are set at pre-determined amounts.
