A lucky ticket-holder in Connecticut purchased the optional Megaplier, and was rewarded with a $2 million prize in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing after matching the five white balls 14, 27, 39, 50 and 69. Because no ticket matched those five numbers plus the Mega Ball of 2, the jackpot rolls to an estimated $56 million ($35 million cash) for the next drawing on Friday, January 29.
The Megaplier for the drawing was 2x, so the winning Connecticut ticket is worth $2 million instead of the standard $1 million. All non-jackpot winning tickets are multiplied by the optional Megaplier, which ranges from 2x to 5x.
There was another Match 5 winning ticket in the January 26 drawing, sold in Virginia and worth $1 million.
The jackpot was last won in New York on January 8; the owner(s) of that $169 million ticket have yet to come forward.
