For the second time in four weeks, a lucky ticket-holder in South Carolina has won a multi-million dollar Match 5 prize from Mega Millions. That ticket included the optional Megaplier purchase, so by matching the five white balls drawn Friday night – 24, 37, 42, 50 and 65 – the standard $1 million prize was multiplied to $2 million when the 2X Megaplier was drawn. A player won $4 million in South Carolina in the September 9 drawing.
The other Match 5 winning ticket in the October 7 drawing was sold in Michigan, and is worth $1 million. In total so far in 2016, there have been 116 Match 5 winning tickets sold; 23 of those were worth from $2 to $5 million each because they included the optional Megaplier.
Since no ticket matched all five white balls plus the gold Mega Ball of 14 Friday night, the jackpot rolls to an estimated $49 million ($32 million cash) for next Tuesday, October 11.
The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won at $134 million in Illinois on September 16.
