A lucky Virginia ticket holder has won $3 million in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing! The ticket matched the five white balls drawn September 5 – 11, 17, 59, 70 and 72 – and included the optional Megaplier, turning the standard $1 million prize into a $3 million windfall after the 3X Megaplier was drawn.
Another ticket, sold in Florida, also matched the five white balls to win $1 million. Both tickets were just shy of winning the jackpot of $61 million, missing the Mega Ball 1, so the jackpot rolls to an estimated $70 million ($44 million cash) for Friday, September 8.
Six winning Match 5 tickets this year have included the Megaplier, an extra $1 purchase option available in most states. They include two worth $5 million (sold in Illinois and Washington), three worth $3 million (New York, Texas and Virginia) and one worth $2 million (Texas). To date in 2017, there have been a total of 86 Match 5 winning tickets worth $1 million or more.
The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won at $393 million in Illinois on August 11.Three other jackpots have been won this year, two in California ($191 million on January 27 and $61 million on April 28) and one in Arkansas ($177 million on March 31).
