A lucky Mega Millions ticket holder will be celebrating a most amazing holiday season in 2019! A single ticket sold in Ohio matched all six numbers drawn Tuesday night to win the $375 million jackpot ($253.5 million cash). The final jackpot amount was adjusted upwards based on actual sales, and is the 14th largest prize in the history of the game. The winning numbers for December 17 are the white balls 22, 30, 53, 55 and 56, plus the gold Mega Ball 16.
Coincidentally, it’s the second time a big jackpot has been won on December 17. On December 17, 2013, the third-largest prize in the history of the game, $648 million, was shared by winners in California and Georgia.
The jackpot had been rolling since it was last won in Texas at $225 million on September 24. Other jackpots awarded this year include $437 million in New York on January 1, $273 million in New Jersey on March 1, $50 million in Missouri on March 12, $522 million in California on June 7 and $168 million in New Hampshire on July 23.
In addition to the jackpot-winning ticket, there were 1,046,830 other winning tickets in the December 17 drawing at all prize levels. Four tickets matched the five white balls to win the game’s second prize. Three of them, sold in Iowa, New York and West Virginia, are worth $1 million each; the fourth is worth $2 million because it included the optional Megaplier, which was 2X Tuesday night; that ticket was sold in Pennsylvania.
For matching four white balls plus the Mega Ball, 22 tickets won $10,000 each; five of those are actually worth $20,000 each because they also included the optional Megaplier.
During this jackpot run, there were almost 13.5 million winning tickets sold, including the jackpot winner and 21 others with prize values of $1 million or more.
The next drawing on Friday, December 20, resets to its starting value of $40 million ($27.0 million cash).
