For just the second time in Mega Millions® history, the jackpot has surpassed $400 million during the month of May! The estimated jackpot for the next drawing on Friday, May 14, is a whopping $430 million ($291.1 million cash). If won at that level, it would be by far the largest Mega Millions jackpot ever awarded in May, and the 11th largest jackpot in the history of the game! The top prize keeps growing after no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Tuesday night – the white balls 7, 8, 20, 36 and 39, plus the gold Mega Ball 22.
There were more than a million prize winners in the May 11 drawing – a total of 1,037,302 winning tickets at all prize levels were sold across the country. Two matched the five white balls to win the game’s $1 million second prize; they were sold in New York and Texas. For matching four white balls plus the Mega Ball, 25 tickets won $10,000 each; two of those are actually worth $30,000 each because they included the optional Megaplier, an extra $1 purchase available in most states. Tuesday night’s Megaplier was 3X.
The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won on February 16, and in that time there have been more than 15.2 million winning tickets at all prize levels, including 25 worth $1 million or more.
Two Mega Millions jackpots have been won to date in 2021. The first, a whopping $1.05 billion prize on January 22, went to a group of players in Michigan. It was the second-largest jackpot in the history of the game. Not even a month later, $96 million was won by a New York couple on February 16.
