A lucky ticket-holder in New York won the Mega Millions jackpot on Tuesday night! One ticket matched all six numbers drawn on February 16 – the white balls 1, 36, 44, 54 and 66, plus the gold Mega Ball 10 – to take the prize of $96 million ($68.5 million cash). The last time the jackpot was won in New York, a group of 23 co-workers shared a $437 million prize on January 1, 2019.
The February 16 jackpot win was the second recorded in 2021, following a whopping $1.050 billion prize won in Michigan on January 22. That winner has not yet come forward.
There were plenty of other winners Tuesday night, as a total of 515,119 tickets won prizes at all levels (in addition to the jackpot win). A ticket sold in California took the game’s second prize, while nine tickets across the country matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball to win the third prize. Eight of those are worth $10,000 each; one is worth $30,000 because it included the optional Megaplier (a $1 extra purchase available in most states). The Megaplier for this drawing was 3X.
In total over the seven drawings since the jackpot was last won on January 22, there were almost 3.9 million winning tickets at all prize levels, including nine second-tier prizes of $1 million or more.
The jackpot for the next drawing on Friday, February 19, resets to its current starting value of $20 million ($14.2 million cash).
