Wichita resident claims $1 million Mega Millions prize!
Drawing Date: 4/28/2015
May 5, 2015 - The $1 million Mega Millions cash prize in the April 28 drawing has been claimed by a Wichita resident! The lucky winner, who wished to remain anonymous, matched the first five numbers, but not the Megaball, on a $5 Quick Pick ticket.
“I only buy lottery tickets a couple of times each month,” explained the winner. “I seldom check my tickets after a drawing. I wait until I get a big stack of them before I check them on the Kansas Lottery’s website. On Sunday, I had 10 to 15 tickets I needed to check. When I checked one of my Mega Millions tickets, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, so I checked it again and got the same results. I immediately jumped up and signed the back of the ticket.”
After signing the back of the winning ticket, the 59-year-old shared the good news with his wife.
“We both walked around in a daze all day Sunday,” the winner said. “We kept saying to each other, ‘Wow! Is this really happening?’ We haven’t told anyone about our win. We wanted to make sure there wasn’t a mistake of some kind. Now that we know for sure we won, we’re going to share the great news with our son and accountant.”
The lucky winner said he plans to continue playing lottery games.
“I’m going to continue on the same path by buying $5 Mega Millions Quick Pick tickets a few times a month since it’s brought me good luck,” said the winner. “Maybe I’ll be back to claim another big prize?”
The winner said he wasn’t sure how he would spend his $1 million cash prize. The winning ticket was purchased at Dillons 34, located at 3932 W. 13th St. in Wichita.
