Group of twenty Rhode Island co-workers claim $5,000,000 prize!

June 21, 2016 - A group of twenty men who work together at a medical supply manufacturing company in Rhode Island claimed the $5,000,000 winning Mega Millions Megaplier ticket from the June 17 draw.

Calling themselves Billy’s Bunch, after the group leader who organizes, collects for and purchases each ticket on behalf of the group, they pool their money weekly and play either Powerball or Mega Millions, whichever one of those games that has the higher jackpot. Their winning ticket matched five numbers to win the standard $1,000,000 prize. However, they purchased the Megaplier feature for an additional $1.00 on their wager, which multiplied the standard $1,000,000 prize by 5, to win $5,000,000.

Individually, each group member won $250,000. The majority of the group plans to retire within the next few years, so they said their win will make their transition a bit easier. Other group members are considering purchasing a new vehicle or planning a vacation.

The winning ticket was purchased at Chum’s Spirits, 94 Chapel St., Harrisville, R.I.
