Sharon resident claims $1 million Mega Millions prize
Drawing Date: 7/8/2016
July 12, 2016 - Marcus Gonzalez of Sharon, Mass., is the winner of a $1 million Mega Millions prize after his Quic Pic ticket matched the first five numbers drawn in the multi-state game’s drawing held Friday, July 8.
Gonzalez was one of the multi-state game’s seven $1 million prize winners in Friday’s Mega Millions drawing, which featured a $536.3 million jackpot, the third-highest in the history of the game. One jackpot winning ticket was sold in Indiana. There were three $2 million prize winners who doubled a $1 million prize by playing the game’s Megaplier option for an extra $1.
Gonzalez claimed his $1 million prize (less taxes) on Monday, July 11 at the Massachusetts State Lottery’s Braintree headquarters. He plans on putting his winnings into savings, likely for future college tuition for his children.
Gonzalez’s winning ticket was purchased at Cumberland Farms, 433 South Main St. in Sharon. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale.
