Bookkeeper thinks winning $1,000,000 is cool
Drawing Date: 8/1/2017
September 22, 2017 - On August 1, Katherine Dorazio of Levittown, N.Y., bought a Quick Pick ticket for that evening’s Mega Millions drawing at her “regular place for buying Lottery tickets:” the 7-Eleven on Stewart Ave. in Hicksville, N.Y. The following day, the 55-year-old checked the five sets of random numbers printed on her Lottery ticket and realized the piece of paper she had so casually placed in her purse like so many others was worth $1,000,000.
Dorazio said she plays different Lottery games every day and considers herself an “advanced” player, but even she was baffled when she realized the prize for matching the first five numbers drawn in the multi-state Mega Millions game was $1,000,000.
“I said, ‘Huh?’ and had one of my co-workers check the ticket,” she said. “I’m not the kind to jump up and down. I’m just like, ‘Oh, I won the Lottery. Cool.’”
The winning numbers for the August 1 Mega Millions drawing were: 20 – 22 – 52 – 57 – 73 and Mega Ball 07.
Derazio will receive her cash prize in a single net payment of $661,800.
She said she plans to continue working at the car dealership where she’s employed as a bookkeeper knowing that there’s a little extra money in the bank. She also plans to use some of that extra cash to complete some long-overdue home improvement projects, including a central air system. And, she’s having fun thinking of all the vacations she could take. But for now, she’s taking her accountant’s advice.
“I’m not going to go crazy,” she said.
