In Virginia, Goochland County man wins $1 million
Drawing Date: 5/2/2017
May 4, 2017 - “I still think it isn’t real. When am I going to wake up?”
That was Reginald Davis’ reaction as he claimed his $1 million prize from the Virginia Lottery. The Manakin Sabot man matched the first five numbers in the May 2 Mega Millions drawing to win $1 million.
He bought the winning ticket at Wegmans at 12200 Wegmans Boulevard in Short Pump. The store receives a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
The winning numbers were 5-14-42-43-58, and the Mega Ball number was 1. The only number he missed was the Mega Ball number. He used Easy Pick, allowing the computer to randomly select the numbers on his ticket.
Mr. Davis, who is retired, said he heard there had been a winning ticket sold at Wegman’s, where he often shops.
“I’d better check my ticket,” he said to himself.
After discovering he had the winning ticket, he couldn’t believe his luck.
“I thought, ‘Is it real?’” he said. “I couldn’t believe it.”
Mr. Davis said he has no immediate plans for his winnings, except to help family.
Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights at 11. Drawings are broadcast on TV stations across Virginia and streamed live at www.valottery.com. The odds of winning the $1 million prize in Mega Millions are 1 in 18,492,204.
