Queens man has a “wow” moment after winning $1,000,000

August 2, 2017 - Fifty-seven-year-old Jaime De Jesus Osorio Ocampo of Woodside, Queens has claimed the $1,000,000 second prize on the June 27 Mega Millions drawing.
After purchasing his ticket while waiting for a friend, the Columbian native would soon come to realize that he was a new millionaire. On Sunday, Ocampo went into a store to check his ticket on the self-scanner.
“I saw ‘BIG WINNER’ come up on the screen. I asked the clerk for a printout of the numbers for June 27 but he did not give me the correct ones.”
Ocampo then went to another store where his was able to get the printout for the correct date and confirm his big win.
“All I could think was, ‘Wow, wow, wow, wow.’”
The winning numbers from the June 27 Mega Millions drawing were 04 – 21 – 45 – 52 – 57 and Mega Ball 14.
Shocked by his win, Ocampo decided to stay in his home until he could come to the Lottery office on Wednesday to claim his $1,000,000 prize.
“I’m very happy. I’m ok, very good,” he said.
Ocampo will receive his prize as a one-time lump-sum payment, netting him $623,041 after required withholdings. Ocampo, who has worked as a livery driver for 17 years, plans on retiring, buying a house and opening a Columbian restaurant.
