Group of 21 veterans shares Mega Millions prize
Drawing Date: 5/4/2018
June 12, 2018 - The California Lottery is adding to its list of winners. And this time, it’s a group of veterans! The group won $570,123 playing Mega Millions last month after matching five of six numbers in the draw.
“I almost fainted,” said William Mason, Sr. the moment he realized they were big winners. The group is made up of 21 veterans from all branches of the military. They call themselves, “Who - Dat,” because of Mason’s love for the New Orleans Saints.
The winning ticket matched the following numbers from the May 4th draw: 10, 4, 12, 18, and 5, missing only the Mega number 21. It was purchased at the 76 gas station in Los Angeles, located at 11305 Santa Monica Boulevard.
When asked if this money was going to change his life, Mason replied with a laugh, “It would’ve been a big change if we would’ve got that (Mega number) 21!”
A total of four tickets, including Mason’s, matched five of six numbers from the May 4th draw. All four tickets split the $2,280,492 prize, which means each ticket is worth $570,123 (before federal taxes). Here’s a look at where the other three tickets were sold:
- Primm Valley Lotto, located at I-15 and Stateline in Nipton (San Bernardino County).
- Chevron in Riverside, located at 2200 Alessandro Boulevard.
- 76 gas station in Antioch, located at 4649 Golf Course Road.
We won’t know who the rest of the winners are until they claim their prizes, which they can do during normal business hours at any of our nine California Lottery District Offices.
