Night out leads to $1 million win!

June 13, 2018 - A Kansas City couple was down in the Branson, Mo., area visiting and headed out to dinner with family on May 11. The husband thought some Powerball and Mega Millions tickets would go great with his dinner that night and purchased $10 of each. It wasn’t until the following Monday that his wife noticed Flat Creek Resort, 7847 State Highway 173 in Cape Fair, Mo., – where they bought their tickets – sold a $1 million Mega Millions ticket.

“I waited until he got home from work and asked him if he had those tickets,” she said. “They were in his truck, so I asked him to go get them. He was kind of annoyed with me that he had to go back out to the truck.”

Once they had their tickets in hand, she checked the winning numbers on MOLottery.com. The winning numbers for May 11 were 14, 38, 40, 53, 70 and the Mega Ball number was 22. And one by one, they matched every number but the Mega Ball number.

“We were jumping up and down, crying,” she laughed. “We always joked about winning. We don’t need $500 million; just give us $1 million and we will be good!”

They plan to use their money wisely. The husband is looking forward to retirement next year. They will use their prize to fix up their home in Kansas City to sell and retire to their home in another part of the state.

“She’s not letting me go out and buy any new toys yet,” he laughed.
