Virginia woman wins $1 million in historic Mega Millions drawing Drawing Date: 10/23/2018 October 26, 2018 - The Mega Millions jackpot was hovering around $1.5 billion when Kelley Brooks received a text from her husband telling her not to forget to get a ticket for that night’s drawing. So, the Aylett (King William County), Va., woman went to Chill Stop at 5033 Richmond Tappahannock Highway in Aylett. She used Easy Pick and allowed the computer to randomly select the numbers on her ticket for the October 23 drawing. The next morning, she received a call from her husband, Larry, who said simply: “You won!” “No, I didn’t!” was her reply. But she was wrong. Her ticket matched the first five numbers and missed the Mega Ball number. She won $1 million. “I was shaking,” she later said. “I couldn’t believe it!” On October 26, Kelley and Larry returned to the store to receive their big check from the Virginia Lottery. Chill Stop received a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. The couple said they have no immediate plans for their winnings. “I still feel the same way,” she said. “I’m still going to be the same person.”
