Megaplier pays off for Queens, N.Y., winner Drawing Date: 5/29/2020 July 23, 2020 - Michael Quinones from Briarwood, N.Y., has claimed a $2 million Mega Millions Megaplier second prize. Quinones matched the first five numbers drawn for the May 29 drawing, making him New York’s newest Lottery millionaire. “When I realized I won I hid the ticket and called my tax preparer,” said Quinones. The Megaplier is an optional $1 additional wager available to Mega Millions players at the time of purchase. The add-on feature allows players to multiply a Mega Millions prize, other than the jackpot, by up to five times its original value. Megaplier numbers are selected randomly prior to each Mega Millions drawing. Much to the delight of Quinones, the random number selected for the May 29 drawing was 2. As a result, Quinones saw what would have been a $1 million second prize automatically double to $2 million. The winning Mega Millions numbers for the May 29 drawing were 10-13-32-41-51 Mega Ball 03. The $2,000,000 Mega Millions second prize is paid as a one-time lump sum payment. Quinones will receive a net check totaling $1,266,081 after required withholdings. “I will use the money to buy a condo,” he said. The winning ticket was purchased at Express News on Main Street in Flushing. The New York Lottery contributed $1,263,968,814 in Lottery Aid to Education to school districts throughout the five boroughs of New York City during fiscal year 2018-2019.
