$2 million prize becomes real for Virginia woman Drawing Date: 1/22/2021 January 29, 2021 – When Dorothy “Linda” Millsap bought her Mega Millions ticket, the jackpot for the multi-state lottery game was approaching $1 billion, and everyone was talking about it. So the Dryden, Va., woman went to Wilderness Road Market at 3952 US Highway 23 North in Gate City, Va., and bought her ticket using Easy Pick, in which the computer randomly selected the numbers on her ticket. The next day, she and her husband heard on the news that a ticket bought at that store had won $2 million in the January 22 drawing. “Isn’t that the gas station where we go?” her husband asked. “Someone won $2 million.” “Oh, my goodness! They’re lucky,” she replied, never dreaming she was that lucky person. It turns out her ticket matched the first five winning numbers in the drawing, missing only the Mega Ball number. Normally, that wins the game’s second prize of $1 million. However, Ms. Millsap spent an extra dollar for the Megaplier when she bought her ticket. That extra dollar doubled her prize to $2 million. “It just doesn’t seem real!” she told Virginia Lottery officials as she claimed her prize. “We still don’t believe it!” Ms. Millsap said she has no immediate plans for her winnings except to take care of her family. She’s not the only winner. The store receives a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket. Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights at 11 p.m. The odds of matching the first five numbers in Mega Millions are 1 in 12,607,306. The odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 1 in 302,575,350.
