A real $2 million for Virginia retirees Drawing Date: 5/18/2021 July 26, 2021 - When Paul Christensen and his wife looked at the Mega Millions ticket in his hand and saw that it matched five of six winning numbers, they couldn’t believe it was the real thing. “I looked at it, and it was real!” he later told Virginia Lottery officials. The Rhoadesville, Va., man bought the ticket at BP-Shorts Food Mart at 24085 Constitution Highway in Unionville for the May 18 Mega Millions drawing. He used Easy Pick, allowing the computer to randomly select the numbers on his ticket. When the winning numbers were drawn, the ticket matched the first five winning numbers, missing only the Mega Ball number. Normally, that wins the game’s second prize of $1 million. However, Mr. Christensen spent an extra dollar for the Megaplier when he bought his ticket. That extra dollar doubled the prize to $2 million. “I’m pretty excited!” the retiree said as the couple claimed their prize. The store receives a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
