“Life-changing” prize for Kentucky winner Drawing Date: 7/29/2022 August 1, 2022 - An Estill County, Ky., woman (who wishes to remain anonymous) has come forward with the $1,000,000 Mega Millions® ticket from Friday night’s drawing. The winner came to Kentucky Lottery headquarters earlier today to claim her prize. “My hands are shaking,” she told lottery officials when handing over the ticket to claims staff. “I had given my mom money to pick up a ticket for me while she was at the store,” she said. The next morning, her mom pulled up the winning numbers on her phone and began checking their tickets when she came across the one that belonged to her daughter. “I saw the numbers match but wasn’t sure how much she had won,” her mother said. Her mom called her daughter and asked, “What do you win if you have five numbers?” She looked up the information on the Kentucky Lottery’s website when she realized she was a millionaire. “I about died when I saw those numbers and started screaming” the winner said. “This is life changing,” the winner said. After taxes, she received a check for $710,000. The $10 ticket for the July 29 drawing with five sets of numbers was purchased at Q Zone 3 on Lexington Road in Richmond. The winner chose the Quick Pick option, letting the terminal pick the numbers. Q Zone 3 will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
