RELEASE DATE: 3/9/2016
Washington’s Lottery is asking players to check their Mega Millions tickets, as the winning ticket for Tuesday night’s $157 million jackpot was sold in Washington.
The single ticket was sold at a retailer in Seattle. The winner matched all six numbers drawn (27-37-54-66-69 plus the Mega Ball 5). The lucky ticket holder will take home an estimated jackpot of $157 million ($102 million cash). This is Washington’s fourth Mega Millions jackpot winner. In January 2011, an individual won a $380 million Mega Millions jackpot, splitting the prize with another winner in Idaho.
Washington’s Lottery advises players who believe they have a winning ticket to sign the back of the ticket, and contact Lottery for more information on validating their ticket and claiming their prize. Jackpots over $100 million must be claimed at Washington’s Lottery headquarters in Olympia.
In addition to the Washington jackpot winner, two winning Match 5 tickets were also sold Tuesday night, one in California and the other in Ohio. The Ohio ticket included the optional Megaplier, which increased the prize amount $5 million.
The jackpot resets at $15 million for the drawing on Friday, March 11.
Proceeds from Washington’s Lottery benefit the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account, providing grants to college students statewide. To learn more about Washington’s Lottery, its beneficiaries and to review all up-to-date winning numbers, please visit www.walottery.com.
