RELEASE DATE: 8/9/2017
The summer continues to sizzle for Mega Millions, with the jackpot still heading upwards! An estimated $382 million ($238 million cash) prize will be offered on Friday night, August 11, after no tickets matched all six numbers drawn Tuesday night, August 8 – the white balls 11, 17, 50, 52 and 74, plus the Mega Ball 14. Friday’s jackpot will be the sixth largest in the 15-year history of the game!
Four tickets matched the five white balls to win $1 million Tuesday night, one each in California, Florida, Georgia and New York.
The jackpot has been rolling for 14 weeks since it was last won on April 28, when David Trapp won a $61 million prize in California. Two other jackpots have also been awarded this year – $191 million to Jack Freney, also in California, and $177 million to Texan Eliberto Cantu with a ticket he purchased in Arkansas.
While the jackpot has remained elusive, there have been plenty of big winners. In this jackpot run, since April 28 there have been 51 Match 5 winners of $1 million or more, with tickets sold in California (8), Florida (3), Georgia (3), Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan (3), Minnesota, New Jersey (6), New York (7), Ohio (2), South Carolina, Texas (4), Virginia (5), Washington and Wisconsin (2). In total, there have been more than 46.2 million winners at all prize levels since April 28.
Last summer’s $536 million jackpot, won July 8, 2016, in Indiana, was the third largest Mega Millions jackpot in history and the most ever awarded to a single winner. The second highest was $648 million on December 17, 2013, with winners in California and Georgia. The record jackpot was $656 million on March 30, 2012, a prize that was split by three winners, one each in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland.
